In my ears and in my eyes

I'd like to announce the newest addition to my household, Penny Lane.

Never to be outdone by my sister, I decided to jump on the pet bandwagon myself. :) Penny's a two year old who I adopted from the animal shelter. Her name was "Gracie", but I might like to name a human child Grace one day, so I had to switch names. She's coppery colored and you know I love the Beatles, so Penny Lane it is. :) Apparently I am a hero for not just wanting a kitten, the way the people at the animal shelter talked. I went last week just to look, and when I walked in all the cats were sleeping, except Penny who jumped up and started meowing at me. I think we'll be happy together. :)

In an effort to not become a crazy cat person, I have laid forth some rules. Penny is not my child, I am not her mommy. Nor is she my baby. I will not use this language with her. She may be called kitty, sweetie, or any other pet name, if you will. I'm not sure what other limits I will put on myself. I guess we'll see as we go along.

Why do you feel the need to establish those ground-rules? Oh wait, I know;)

Awhhhh, how cute!!! She's perfect. You did a great job of picking out your baby, mom. (Oh wait, did I just break a ground rule?)

I didn't realize how much of an animal lover I was until we got our puppy Wallace. I quickly succumbed to calling myself Mommy. But, if those are your goals, stay strong!

It's funny too. Yesterday, I took Wallace in to get groomed, and I had to leave him there for 3 hours. I found myself back at the apartment pacing because I was anxious to see him again. Call me crazy, but that's what happened. I never expected that with an animal.

Thanks for the congrats you guys. :) I should have specified that I don't want to become a crazy animal lover, rather than limiting it to cats. I just want to have a pet. :) I am doing well so far in my limits. I also stood firm in another one. I wanted my room to be off limits and last night I was firm with that. She meowed outside my door for a few minutes but then had a nice, non-destructive night by herself. We'll see how long my resolve in all this lasts. :)

I always said I would never have a dog in the house or pick up dog poo, but now look at me! I hope you can stick to your rules. Congratulations on the beautiful kitty!

I am so glad that she was still there and that your trip to Abilene to see me didn't mean someone else got to take her! She is super cute and I love the angle and the lighting of that photo! When you were looking at kitty beds at Wal-Mart didn't you say she could sleep with you?? I guess you changed your mind. When i was growing up we had a kitten that would come into my room at 5 am and get on top of me and claw me through the covers and make me scream. If I moved, out came the piercing claws. It was some awful form of kitty torture! The kicker was that she only did it on Saturday mornings...go figure!

Hi Ann:
it's julie d. in texas. yes, i too am a cat owner, having adopted an adult cat when i moved down here with LST, and have set forth some ground rules like you have. i never let the vet call me the cat's "mommy", i never call the cat 'baby', and i never send out christmas photos of me and the cat. that's where i draw the line.

It seems we both acquired grown cats the same weekend! I think that alone qualifies it as a great one.

Ours, Dustie, had to deal with a name change too, but I doubt she realizes it (originally Dusty, but the gender was confusing).
